Kates Art of Doodle
I have been doodling for most of my life, it has been a way I calm and focus my brain, and is a mandatory activity for me and many others. Over the years, doodling has been recognized as a technique to help the subconscious mind interpret personality and as a stress reliever in daily life. In the USA, we have a national doodling day themed "drawing to make a difference", and I remember reading about a mathematician called Stanislaw U. who also used doodling as a mind organizing activity and said, "I doodle numbers during boring lectures, and realized that all prime numbers form a particular square spiral path." Doodling can show a unique view into someones mind, offering a window into the way they view the world.
The images I create are made up us a series of graphic marks, straight lines, curve lines, and dots. The overall placement on the writing surface, the directions of the lines and overall consistency, simplicity and complexity of these marks create my doodles. I consider and use margins and spacing to create proportional balance and rhythm within each piece. Shapes often represent goals and visions, and sometimes when there are too many I get overwhelmed. When that happens or when I am overwhelmed by decisions, I can use doodling as a way to organize my thoughts. I hope these images will inspire you and encourage a sense of fun and play!
